Aloha for Staten Island

This story began on March 11, 2011, when the worldʻs fifth most powerful earthquake in recorded history generated a tsunami that devastated Fukushima Prefecture in Japan. In October of that year, three Honolulu Sunrise Rotarians (Masa Edamura, Dave Erdman and Allen Kamemoto) traveled to Fukushima to bring aloha to the children of Isobe Elementary School.   Following Hurricane Sandy, the Rotary Club of Fukushima South reached across the Pacific to return the favor. Malama Maunalua with Interact

Mahalo to the Interact Clubs from Roosevelt High School and Mid-Pacific Institute for joining us on a Malama Maunalua seaweed huki. Together with community groups, we removed 7,700 pounds of invasive algae removed from 600 square meters and reduced the invasive algae coverage in the area by 32%, leaving the area with an average coverage of 23%.
